Style and Life Inspiration from On-Screen Fashion Icons
Confession time: Who is your all-time favorite style icon from T.V or film? 10-year-old me would indefinitely answer: Hannah Montana. I mean, who can forget those sparkly cowboy boots paired with jeans under a bright, fringe dress?
Admittedly, thinking of this image, we laugh; but truth be told, there is something quite exhilarating when a character's personality shines from their clothes.
It is the sheer creativity and individuality that is expressed in each carefully picked item that makes you want to embrace your own sense of style. From Ugly Betty to the Gossip Girl, here are the top fashion icons from the T.V. screen to show you how you can embrace your own personal style.
1. Betty Suarez from "Ugly Betty"
Betty Suarez was the unconventional personal assistant to Editor-In-Chief, Daniel, of the made up publication "Mode" in "Ugly Betty." Betty stood her own ground when it came to style and who she was despite her coworkers' nonstop criticism.
Betty makes the list not because she had the best outfits, but because she embraced who she was and where she came from every day through her choice of clothes. This undoubtedly made Betty a fashion icon because by definition, fashion means "a prevailing custom of style and dress." And each and every single outfit Betty wore was definitely custom to her brand.
2. Carrie from "The Carrie Diaries"
This show might have only lasted two seasons as it just couldn't match up to the rave of "Sex and The City" but the fashion from that show is something that still shows up in my dreams at times.
The young Carrie Bradshaw portrayed by AnnaSophia Robb rocked the craziest prints from leopard to cheetah, and matched colors that are usually unconventional.
The lesson here is to not be afraid to try ideas that the next person hasn't tried.
3. Blair from "Gossip Girl"
She was (and still is) the Queen B that everybody wanted to dress like. Blair Waldorf, the go-getting, spunky protagonist/antagonist from Gossip Girl showed the up and coming girls how to dress trendy and stay classy.
Berets are just now back in style but before the Parisian hats found their way back to the popular market, Blair was already ahead of the game. Blair's style defined who was from the inside; a strong, chic, independent princess from the Upper East Side.
Even if you are not any of the above, you can always find ways to incorporate strong choices of style like Blair to bring out your own true colors.
