Snackin' On The Runway

Chromat NYFW '18

Fashion’s love-hate relationship with food has always been one to raise eyebrows. As the latest fall collections made their debut, the most surprising trend on this year’s runway was snacks. The fashion industry is not typically known for uniting their passion for food with clothing but it seems the days when cigarettes and coffee were considered a meal are long gone.

From Raf Simons to Adriana Sahar, several designers experimented with the traditional runway format. Aside from representing a peculiar aesthetic, the very accessible accessories put a tasty twist on even the most diverse creative looks.

Below are a few of the wildest and most over-the-top statement making accessories:

Chromat NYFW '18

Chromat

Future forward swimwear brand, Chromat sent Cheetos down the runway as they unveiled their explorative themed swimwear collection. Designed with a range of netted and rope pockets for extra security, the brand took things a little further by having some models snack on the spicy accessory as they made their debut. In recent years, Chromat has lead the fashion world with its diversity. Casting models that don't fit the narrow standard of beauty, the non-conforming brand has always set a trend for representing all identities -- but snacking down the runway is a first and pretty memorable moment for fashion.

Calvin Klein

While most guests wait until after the show to much on their favorite snacks, there was a different way of life at Calvin Klein's show venue Tuesday evening. The entire old New York Stock Exchange space was filled with popped kernels forcing guests to wade through it as if it were snow. Models also carried bags of the popped treat as they walked down the runway. According to Popcorn Charlies, the company that supplied the runway treat, there were 50,000 gallons trucked in for the show.

PH5

US based knitwear brand, PH5 presented clementines as their fashion accessory. Designer Maryam Nassir Zadeh had models walk her runway carrying clear totes filled with oranges.

Adriana Sahar

LA born designer, Adriana Sahar made a statement with her collection targeting global warming while model, Justine Biticon casually strutted the runway eating a bag of Hairibo gummy bears. Morphing a range of girlish, yet adult outfits with vibrant palettes, the flashy collection stands out as an aesthetic solely for dream girls.
